What is the McKenzie Method?
It is a Mechanical Diagnostic Technique (MDT) designed to assess and treat musculoskeletal problems of the spine and extremities. It emphasizes active patient movements and self-management.
With the use of this method, your therapist will test effect of repeated motions and sustained postural loading on your symptoms. Based on your response, the therapist will determine the most likely cause of your pain.
Your therapist will then take advantage of your own movements and forces to reduce pain and regain function. You will be given a series of individualized exercises based on your response during the assessment. You can also use these exercises to self-treat at home which indicates that this approach is a very active form of treatment. It puts you in control of your treatments.
